Households prepare for the cold

Carpet and rug sales rise in Al-Kut ahead of winter

AL-KUT, November 6 — Sales of carpets and rugs in Al-Kut’s markets are in the rise ahead of the winter season, with prices varying based on type and production quality. Vendors anticipate higher demand now with the onset of colder weather.

Mohammed Shumran, a local vendor, said, “Carpet and rug season begins in mid-October and lasts until mid-December when people start buying.”

“There are about 10 models in the market this season, locally referred to as sada, atb, Turkish silk, Berlin, and 3D.”

In the current season, prices for one square meter of carpeting range from 2,000 to 14,000 Iraqi dinars, depending on the quality, which is the focus of sales in the current period.

As for rugs, prices are based on the area, and sales are conducted using the shana method, meaning the number of knots per square meter.

Carpets and rugs in the Iraqi market come from Turkey and Iran, in addition to China, which has increasingly supplied shops in recent years.
