Counterfeit electric water heaters carrying the “Al-Tahan” brand seized from an unlicensed factory in Baghdad.
Baghdad authorities shut down factory producing counterfeit electrical goods
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Planning on Tuesday announced the discovery of an unlicensed factory in Baghdad manufacturing counterfeit electrical products.
Fayyad al-Dulaimi, head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, said joint teams found the factory in the Kamaliya area producing fake electric water heaters labeled with the “Al-Tahan” brand.
He said the operation was carried out with the National Security Service, the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, the Intelligence Directorate, and the Federal Police. Authorities arrested one worker, collected samples for testing, and closed the factory pending judicial action.
Earlier this year, authorities in Baghdad’s Rusafa district shut down another unlicensed facility engaged in industrial fraud, where counterfeit brand labels were placed on packaging for light bulbs not available on the market.
