UAE condemns second drone attack on its Kurdistan Region consulate in a week
ERBIL — The United Arab Emirates condemned a drone attack on its consulate general in the Kurdistan Region for the second time in a week, wounding two security personnel and causing structural damage.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the strike a “flagrant violation of all international norms and laws” and “a serious escalation and a threat to regional security and stability.” It urged the Iraqi federal government and the KRG to investigate, identify those responsible and hold them accountable.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani each spoke by phone with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan last week following the first attack, which struck near the consulate in Erbil on Monday.
The Kurdistan Region has faced at least 200 drone, missile and rocket attacks since the war between the United States, Israel and Iran began Feb. 28, killing four people and injuring 19, according to Community Peacemaker Teams – Iraqi Kurdistan. The IRGC and Iran-aligned armed groups have claimed responsibility for many of the strikes, which have hit military installations, diplomatic facilities, airports, oil sites and residential areas across Erbil and Sulaymaniyah provinces.
