Tanker driver killed in fire on Erbil’s 120-Meter Road

ERBIL — A fuel tanker driver was killed when his vehicle overturned and caught fire on Erbil’s 120-Meter Road late Tuesday, opposite the Jihan City residential complex.

The tanker burned out and the driver died inside it. His body was taken to the Erbil forensic medicine department and has not been identified because of the extent of the burns. Civil defense teams brought the fire under control after several hours, having worked to stop it spreading.

The stretch of road where the tanker overturned was still closed on Wednesday morning with the vehicle in place, causing heavy traffic. Traffic teams are using specialized equipment to remove it and say the road should reopen in the afternoon.

Authorities have not said what caused the crash, whether another vehicle was involved, or what the tanker was carrying.
