Security forces seize unlicensed weapons in Husseiniya raid

BAGHDAD – A joint security force conducted a large-scale search operation Monday in the Husseiniya area of northern Baghdad to confiscate unlicensed weapons, a security source told 964media.

“Units from the 5th Regiment of the Federal Police and the Tactical Regiment of Al-Zuhur Police Station participated in the operation,” the source said. The campaign focused on identifying and seizing unauthorized firearms. “The operation resulted in the confiscation of several unlicensed firearms,” the source added.

According to the source, the effort is part of “the Interior Ministry’s continued efforts to impose the rule of law and limit the spread of uncontrolled weapons.”

Last week, the Interior Ministry announced the arrest of 166 people and the seizure of 126 weapons in a security operation in Baghdad’s Al-Saada and Al-Rashad areas.

Years of conflict in Iraq have left firearms widely available, with many owned without licenses. Authorities have faced repeated calls for tighter gun control and launched a nationwide buyback program last year.
