Al-Sudani orders dismissal of Al-Zawra district commissioner

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with sheikhs and community leaders from Al-Zawra district in eastern Baghdad to discuss service shortfalls and residents’ demands, his media office said in a statement.

The Prime Minister ordered the removal of the district commissioner for “failure to perform his duties and responsibilities,” and set a deadline to complete Al-Maamal Hospital before the end of the year.

Al-Sudani also directed local and federal authorities to accelerate infrastructure projects, including the district’s master plan, a water project, and the Baghdad–Baqubah tourist road.

“Forming a committee from the Prime Minister’s Office to follow up on the implementation of these decisions,” the statement read, adding that a monthly meeting will be held with Baghdad officials and district representatives to track progress.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met with a group of sheikhs and community leaders from Al-Zawraa District (Al-Maamal area) in eastern Baghdad, in the presence of MP Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sihoud, the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor of Baghdad, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, and several local officials.

During the meeting, His Excellency was briefed on the living and service conditions in the district, as well as residents’ demands to improve municipal services, address the shortage of school buildings, and enhance economic conditions. The Prime Minister directed the following measures:
1. Instructing the local government to exercise its authority to relieve the district commissioner of Al-Zawraa from his post, due to his failure to perform his duties and responsibilities.
2. Setting a timeline to complete Al-Maamal Hospital before the end of this year, according to specified standards.
3. Directing the Baghdad Governorate to expedite the referral of the master plan project for Al-Zawraa District to a specialized company.
4. Instructing the Baghdad Municipality to contract with a specialized company within 20 days to complete the tourist road through the Baghdad–Baqubah route.
5. Directing the Ministries of Finance and Planning and the Baghdad Governorate to finalize contracting procedures with a specialized company to implement the water project in the district at a cost of 200 billion dinars.
6. Instructing the Baghdad Governorate to add a component to Al-Husseiniya water project to extend a pipeline to Al-Zawraa District until the main water project is completed.
7. Directing the Service and Engineering Effort Team to complete new projects in the district.
8. Allocating land for the construction of schools under the Iraq Development Fund projects to replace prefabricated caravan schools.
9. Allocating the land of the Thermostone Factory in the district to establish premises for municipal and ministerial offices serving the district.
10. Establishing a community sports field in the district and fencing the other existing fields.
11. Establishing a municipal directorate within the official administrative boundaries of the district to manage service delivery.
12. Forming a committee from the Prime Minister’s Office to follow up on the implementation of these decisions, and holding a monthly meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, with the participation of the Governor of Baghdad, the Mayor of Baghdad, and representatives of the district’s residents to review progress.
