Police arrest suspect in $36,000 Amarah home theft

MAYSAN — Maysan Police Command said Friday evening it arrested a man accused of stealing 52 million dinars ($36,415) from a residence in central Amarah.

In a statement, the command said, “A specialized anti-crime team, based on the report received, was able to collect information, cross-check it, and identify the perpetrator of the crime. After investigative efforts and technical operations, his location was determined and he was apprehended.”

Police added that the suspect “confessed during the investigation to stealing an amount of 52 million Iraqi dinars from one of the residential houses.” His statements were “recorded preliminarily,” according to the statement.
