Baghdad Governorate denies reports of poisoned water tanks in Abu Ghraib
BAGHDAD — Baghdad Governorate on Saturday denied reports circulating on social media claiming that terrorists had poisoned water tanks in Abu Ghraib. The governorate said the measure taken was only a precautionary suspension of pumping and cleaning of the tanks, with water supplied through 50 tankers to ensure public safety.
Baghdad Governorate said: “We confirm that these reports are completely false. What happened was a temporary halt of pumping in a specific area in Akarkouf subdistrict, and the tanks were cleaned by the Baghdad Water Directorate as a precaution after doubts arose over the water’s suitability, in order to protect citizens.”
It added: “After pumping was stopped, 50 tankers were sent to secure water and prevent shortages in the area.”
The governorate urged: “We call on citizens to rely on official and trusted sources for news and not to be drawn into rumors.”
