Iraq sees slight drop in temperatures but dust continues
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority said Saturday that the country is experiencing hot to very hot summer weather across most areas, with generally clear skies and scattered clouds in parts of the south and west.
The report noted that temperatures dropped slightly compared to Friday, by about 1–2 degrees Celsius. Winds are expected to be moderate northwesterly at 20–30 kilometers per hour, strengthening during the day in central and southern regions and raising dust in desert areas. The authority added that horizontal visibility will generally range between 8–10 kilometers but may decrease to 3–5 kilometers in dusty areas during daylight hours.
In Baghdad, where daily life is often shaped by extreme summer heat, the forecast recorded a high of 47°C on Saturday, with only a slight cooling expected in the coming days. Residents continue to adjust to frequent dust storms and soaring temperatures that strain the city’s infrastructure, especially its power grid, which is pushed to keep up with heavy demand for cooling.
