Iraqi parliament extends legislative session by 30 days

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Council of Representatives voted Thursday to extend its legislative session by 30 days, in a session chaired by Mohsen al-Mandalawi.

The parliament’s media office gave no further details beyond confirming the extension.

Iraq’s legislative term follows a constitutional cycle tied to elections and parliamentary sessions. The Federal Supreme Court has ruled the term lasts four years from the parliament’s first session, which convened in late 2025. Parliament has previously extended sessions or convened additional ones to address pending legislation or procedural deadlines.
