Iraqi parliament urges Coordination Framework to meet PM nomination deadline
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Council of Representatives on Thursday called on the Coordination Framework to adhere to constitutional deadlines for nominating a prime minister-designate, and urged the nominee to submit a cabinet lineup and government program 48 hours before a confidence vote.
“The council calls on the largest bloc to adhere to the constitutional deadlines for naming the prime minister-designate,” parliament’s media office said in a statement.
The Coordination Framework has been deadlocked over a candidate since the 2025 elections. President Nizar Amedi, elected April 11 and inaugurated April 12, has 15 days under Article 76 to task the bloc’s nominee with forming a government. The framework postponed a planned meeting on Wednesday with leaders of member factions due to convene Friday to finalize a candidate.
