Three arrested over mountain fire near Said Sadiq that damaged trees and vegetation

SAID SADIQ — The Halabja Security Directorate said it arrested three people accused of causing a fire on a mountain near Said Sadiq district that damaged trees, vegetation and natural cover.

Following an investigation and an order from an investigating judge, security forces arrested the three suspects, who confessed to the offense during questioning. They have been handed over to the Forestry and Environmental Police Department in Said Sadiq, with investigation files opened and further inquiries ongoing.

The arrests follow Halabja police’s detention last week of three other suspects in connection with a fire in the Nawroli tourist area, allegedly caused by hookah embers thrown into dry grass. The incidents come as fire cases begin to increase ahead of summer, with residents calling for tighter monitoring in tourist area.
