Iraq welcomes Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it “welcomes the announcement of reaching a peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan” and expressed hope the deal “will contribute to achieving stability and enhancing security in the Caucasus region.”

In a statement, the ministry commended “the efforts made by the United States of America in facilitating the conclusion of this agreement” and affirmed Iraq’s support for “all efforts aimed at resolving disputes through peaceful means.”

On Aug. 8, 2025, at the White House, President Donald Trump hosted a trilateral signing of the peace agreement between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Republic of Iraq’s welcome of the announcement of reaching a peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Ministry renews its hope that this agreement will contribute to achieving stability and enhancing security in the Caucasus region, and will have a positive impact on the two friendly peoples.

The Ministry commends the efforts made by the United States of America in facilitating the conclusion of this agreement, and affirms Iraq’s support for all efforts aimed at resolving disputes through peaceful means, in a way that ensures respect for the sovereignty of states and the integrity of their territories, and enhances regional security and development.
