'Family dispute'
Suspected arson kills 3, injures 1 in Basra
BASRA — Three family members were killed and a fourth critically injured Tuesday after a man allegedly set fire to a house in the Al-Mashraq Al-Jadeed neighborhood of central Basra, according to security officials.
The fire, which broke out in the morning, destroyed the home and left one survivor with severe burns. He was transported to Al-Fayhaa Hospital for treatment, officials said.
A security source told 964media the incident stemmed from a family dispute between the suspect and his brother, who was the sole survivor. “Three members of one family died and a fourth was injured after a young man set the house on fire following a family dispute with his brother,” the source said.
Security forces arrested the suspect as he attempted to flee the scene. Authorities have opened a formal investigation.
