Iraq denies claims of Syrian bulldozers breaching border barrier
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Border Forces Command on Saturday denied social media claims that Syrian bulldozers had dismantled part of the border barrier between Iraq and Syria, clarifying that the video being circulated actually shows activity inside Syria’s Aleppo governorate.
“A video was circulated on social media claiming that Syrian bulldozers removed border barriers between Iraq and Syria,” the command said in a statement. “We clarify that the footage shows an earthen barrier being removed inside Syrian territory, specifically in Aleppo, and it has no connection to the Iraqi-Syrian border.”
The command said the border remains secure and well protected. “The Iraqi-Syrian border is secure and monitored around the clock by our forces. It is protected by strong fortifications and an advanced surveillance system,” the statement said.
The Border Forces also urged the public and media outlets to verify information before sharing it, warning of legal consequences for spreading false claims. “We urge reliance on official sources and caution that anyone promoting false information will be held accountable under applicable law,” the statement added.
