Maysan volunteers host religious and recreational summer course for children
MAYSAN — Volunteers from the Imam Mahdi Association organized a week-long summer course in Al-Qala’a Al-Salih, Maysan, blending religious education with sports and arts to engage children during the school break.
Held at the Grand Mosque, the course included prayer and ablution lessons, storytelling sessions about the prophets, Imam Hussein, and the Day of Ghadir, alongside football matches and painting activities aimed at fostering teamwork and creativity.
“We organized a summer course focused on young participants, combining religious topics with activities like football to encourage cooperation and competition,” said Hussein Abbas, a member of the organizing team. “We also included drawing to discover artistic talents among the children.”
The association encouraged parents to enroll their children in similar programs, highlighting their educational and cultural benefits.
Mohammed Subaih, another volunteer, said the initiative targets all age groups but began with children aged 10 to 15. “We started with those aged 10 to 15 and plan to expand to older groups next,” he said.
Course participant Mahdi Hassanain added, “This religious course taught me about morals, sportsmanship, prayer, ablution, and many other religious matters. I also learned to draw.”
