Father drowns with two children in Koya as search continues for missing child
ERBIL — Local rescue teams in Koya recovered the body of a father who drowned alongside his two children in a small stream Saturday evening, while search operations continue for one of the missing children, authorities said Sunday.
Goran Ahmad, director of Koya Civil Defense, told 964media, “This morning, we recovered the father’s body. The second child is still missing, and our teams are continuing the search.”
The victims, an Arab family residing in Koya district, were visiting the Bogd village area when the incident occurred. The father, a law professor at Koya University, had taken his two children to the banks of the Little Zab River for a short outing.
Authorities have yet to determine what led to the drowning. “Our understanding is that the family was there for a visit and a walk,” Ahmad said. “So far, the reason for the drowning remains unknown.”
Local teams remain at the scene as the search continues.
