Border police arrest seven for illegal hunting and firearms possession
BAGHDAD, October 24 — Border police units arrested seven individuals on Monday for charges ranging from illegal hunting, illegal firearms possession, and failure to display a license plate.
The group of suspects, including two Iraqi dual-nationals, was caught hunting without official permits and traveling in two vehicles three falcons and hunting rifles.
A statement from the government said:
Through field surveillance and intensified oversight efforts, a unit from the Tenth Border Brigade within the Third Region Border Command succeeded in apprehending seven individuals, including two Iraqis who hold citizenship from an Arab country. They were traveling in two vehicles, one of which was an Iraqi vehicle, while the other had no license plates.
The police force seized two hunting rifles and three falcons in their possession, as they were engaging in hunting without obtaining official approvals from Iraqi authorities. The individuals were handed over to the police station for further legal procedures.
The Ministry of Interior calls upon all hunters to obtain the necessary permits before commencing any hunting activity. Additionally, authorities will impose financial penalties on those who violate prevailing laws in this regard and will confiscate birds entering the country without proper permits.
