Growing appeal
Soran prepares for Eid Al-Adha, expects over 100,000 tourists
SORAN — Tourist sites across the Soran Administration in Erbil governorate are preparing to receive more than 100,000 visitors during the upcoming Eid Al-Adha holiday, according to local officials.
Faisal Sadiq, head of Soran’s tourism directorate, told 964media that a special committee has been conducting regular inspections of popular destinations to ensure readiness ahead of the holiday, which begins Friday, June 6.
The committee is coordinating with traffic police and civil defense teams to manage road safety and prevent disruptions, Sadiq said. He credited the region’s favorable climate, mountainous geography, and recent tourism projects for the anticipated rise in visitor numbers.
“Because of the cooler climate compared to other areas, summer tourism has been increasing year by year,” he said. “Our area has strong tourism appeal, and visitors come here in all four seasons.”
Since the start of 2025, nearly 400,000 tourists have visited the Soran Administration, with travelers arriving from other parts of the Kurdistan Region as well as central and southern Iraq.
Tourist destinations in Soran include the Gali Ali Beg, Bekhal Waterfall, Shinglbana, Jundiyan, Korek Mountain, Przhe, Hassan Beg Mountain, and the Balakayati area.
