'Only resurfacing remaining'
Final stages of Gali Ali Beg bridge repairs underway in Soran
SORAN — The repair work on the Gali Ali Beg Bridge, Soran, has reached its final stages, with only the asphalt resurfacing remaining before it is fully reopened to traffic. According to Soran’s qaymaqam, Rajab Zubair, the renovation was successfully completed without any complications.
On Dec. 27, a crashed truck forced the closure of the Gali Ali Beg road, a vital link between Erbil and Soran. Since then there were efforts to repair it.
Speaking to 964media, Zubair stated, “The bridge repairs are free of any issues, and the damaged sections have been replaced. The bridge is now suitable for vehicle traffic.”
He added, “The old asphalt layer on the bridge has been removed, as it was excessively heavy. A lighter asphalt layer is being applied to reduce the structural load on the bridge.”
The old asphalt layer removed from the bridge weighed approximately 40 tons. The material has now been cleared, and rollers, shovels, and specialized asphalt-laying equipment are being used to complete the final resurfacing.
The Soran Administration encompasses six districts, 13 sub-districts, and around 800 villages. It boasts the largest number of metal bridges in the Kurdistan Region, with a total of 42 bridges, most of which are strategically located along the Hamilton Road, a key route linking Erbil to the international border crossing at Haji Omaran.
