One dead, two injured in high-speed crash on Arbat Road in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH — A fatal traffic accident occurred Monday on the main Arbat Road near Khirajyan village, killing one person and injuring two others, according to local traffic officials.

Zana Aziz, an official at the Arbat Traffic Directorate, said the crash involved a Toyota Prado traveling at high speed. The vehicle lost control, veered off its lane, struck the metal divider, and collided with an oncoming white Honda Accent.

The driver of the Honda was killed in the impact, while the front-seat passenger sustained serious injuries. The driver of the Prado was also injured. All victims were treated by emergency teams who arrived at the scene shortly after the collision.

Traffic authorities documented the incident and launched an investigation.

Traffic-related fatalities remain a serious issue in Sulaymaniyah. In the first half of 2024, officials recorded 111 deaths. In 2023, the Sulaymaniyah Traffic Directorate reported 1,047 traffic incidents resulting in 153 deaths and 1,887 injuries.
