PM calls for restraint on all sides
Iraqi prime minister orders investigation into Makhmour clashes
BAGHDAD, October 23 — Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ Al-Sudani issued a directive on Sunday for a high-level committee to investigate clashes that took place in Makhmour between Iraqi Army and Peshmerga forces, which resulted in casualties.
Al-Sudani emphasized the need for leaders and commanders from both sides to exercise restraint.
A statement from Major General Yahya Rasool, the official spokesperson for the Iraqi military, said:
The Prime Minister, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, followed the developments of the incident that took place in the Makhmour region today, leading to the deaths of three individuals and the injury of seven others from both sides near one of the security points.
In light of this, he instructed the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the incident, determine its circumstances, and assess the results. He emphasized the need for all leaders and commanders at all levels, whether from the federal government’s units or the Peshmerga forces, to exercise restraint. It is essential to act with great wisdom, prioritize higher interests, strengthen commonalities, and not let enemies of Iraq seize this opportunity.
