Kurdistan Region announces five-day Eid al-Adha holiday
ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government announced Monday that the Eid al-Adha holiday will run from Tuesday May 26 to Saturday May 30, with official work suspended across public institutions and service departments operating on a shift basis. Work resumes Sunday May 31.
The announcement mirrors a federal government decision last week to suspend official work over the same period. The Kurdistan Region’s holiday does not include Eid al-Ghadir on June 4, a separate public holiday announced by the federal government that is primarily observed by Shiite Muslims in other parts of Iraq.
Eid al-Adha marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage and is observed with prayers, family gatherings and the ritual slaughter of livestock, with meat distributed to relatives and those in need.
