School principal referred for investigation after Iraqi flag ‘raised upside down’
NAJAF — The Education Directorate in Najaf has launched an investigation into the principal of Zamzam Primary School after the Iraqi national flag was displayed upside down on the school building, officials said Tuesday.
In a statement, the directorate said the flag was improperly hoisted due to the principal’s failure to supervise its placement, despite prior instructions issued to all school administrators.
“In the interest of respecting national symbols and reinforcing Iraqi identity, the Director General of Education in Najaf, Mirdan Al-Budairi, has ordered an investigation into the principal of Zamzam Primary School for failing to oversee the correct placement of the Iraqi flag,” the statement said.
The directorate reiterated guidelines requiring the flag to be flown at the highest point of school buildings, properly secured, clean, and mounted on a designated flagpole.
“The Iraqi flag is a symbol of dignity and national sovereignty, and all educational institutions must fully comply with ministry instructions regarding its display,” the statement added.
