Child dies after falling from pickup truck cargo bed in Darbandikhan district

SULAYMANIYAH — A 10-year-old child died Friday night after falling from the back of a vehicle near the village of Chamerga in Darbandikhan district, local officials said.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. as a family was returning from an outing to the Bawakhoshen subdistrict. The child, who had been riding in the rear of a pickup truck, fell and later died from injuries sustained in the fall.

“The family, who are Arab [Iraqis] residing in Darbandikhan, had gone on an outing to the Bawakhshin area,” district commissioner Sleman Mohammed told 964media. “On their way back, near the village of Chamerga, one of their children who was sitting in the rear of the Kia pickup truck fell off and died.”

The child was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, Mohammed said.
