Basra University Denies Exam Papers Burned in Storage Fire

BASRA — Basra University on Monday denied social media rumors claiming that exam papers were destroyed in a fire that broke out earlier in the day at a storage room in the College of Administration and Economics.

“The news circulating about the burning of exam papers is completely false,” the university said in a statement. “None of the exam papers were affected, and they are stored in completely safe locations.”

According to the university, the fire started at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, due to an electrical fault in one of the storage rooms at the Bab Al-Zubair complex.

“To ensure the safety of our dear students, today’s exams at the college were postponed,” the statement said. “Civil defense teams quickly and efficiently contained the fire, and no injuries were recorded, thank God.”

According to the statement, University officials began assessing the damage and launched immediate repairs. Technical teams, in cooperation with civil defense, have started a full investigation to determine the cause and to implement preventive measures.

“The university affirms its constant commitment to the safety of its staff and students and urges everyone to rely on official sources for information,” the statement added.
