Two arrested in Diyala on terrorism warrants
DIYALA — Military Intelligence said Saturday that its forces had arrested two men in Diyala who were wanted under warrants issued under Article 4/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
Personnel from the Intelligence and Security Department of the 23rd Commando Division made the arrests with other security forces in the division’s area of operations, the directorate said. The two have been handed to the relevant authorities. It did not say when or where in the governorate the arrests took place, or what the men are accused of.
The Islamic State group seized large parts of northern and western Iraq in 2014 before Iraqi forces declared its territorial defeat in 2017. It has since operated through sleeper cells and small units, particularly in desert and rural areas.
