Four governorates back to 50°C as parts of Kurdistan Region cool below 40
BAGHDAD — Maysan, Dhi Qar, Muthanna and Basra are forecast to reach 50°C on Sunday, while Duhok drops to 39°C, the lowest reading in the country in weeks, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.
Diwaniyah and Najaf are expected to reach 49°C, Baghdad, Wasit and Babil 48°C, and Salah al-Din, Diyala and Karbala 47°C. Kirkuk is forecast at 46°C, Anbar 45°C, Nineveh 43°C, Erbil 42°C and Sulaymaniyah 41°C. Skies will be generally clear with temperatures close to Saturday’s.
Monday will be similar, with some cloud in the south, before temperatures fall nationwide on Tuesday. On Wednesday moderate northwesterly winds in the centre and south are forecast to reach 45 km/h in places, raising local dust and cutting visibility from 8 to 10 km to between 4 and 6 km, with temperatures easing slightly in the centre and south.
