Iraq weather forecast warns of thunderstorms, dust storms, slight cooling in central regions

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority issued a weather report Tuesday forecasting partly cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine across most regions, along with chances of light showers and thunderstorms.

The report said evening thunderstorms are expected in northern areas, particularly across parts of the Kurdistan Region, accompanied by light rain and occasional lightning. Temperatures are forecast to drop slightly in central governorates compared to Monday, while remaining stable in southern areas.

Moderate winds from the west to northwest are expected at 20 to 30 kph, strengthening in the morning across western regions and gradually spreading north and central. The winds will bring a mild air mass, raising dust levels from moderate to heavy.

Visibility is projected between 6 and 8 kilometers but could fall sharply to 1 to 2 kilometers — and at times below 1 kilometer — particularly on open highways and in desert areas due to dust storms.

In Basra, Dhi Qar, and Maysan, winds are expected to be light and variable in direction, the authority said.
