Excessive speed blamed
One killed, one injured in traffic incident in Tuz Khurmatu district
TUZ KHURMATU — A driver was killed and a passenger seriously injured in a vehicle rollover near the Yathrib subdistrict in Tuz Khurmatu on Monday, traffic authorities said.
Muayad Abbas, head of Tuz Khurmatu traffic police, told 964media the crash was caused by excessive speed. “The crash occurred due to the Nissan pickup driver’s recklessness. The incident location is a wide road and relatively free of traffic, but the driver’s speed caused him to lose control, leading to the rollover,” he said.
Two people were in the vehicle. The driver died at the scene, while the passenger sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Abbas added that traffic and health authorities across Salah Al-Din governorate are coordinating to increase ambulance deployment on major roads to reduce accident response times. He urged drivers to follow traffic regulations to help prevent similar incidents.
The Tuz Khurmatu district experienced a sharp rise in traffic incidents in 2024, with over 40 fatalities and more than 100 injuries reported—a 40% increase from 2023—which included motorcyclists among the victims.
