Health concerns continue

New case of hemorrhagic fever reported in Nineveh

NINEVEH — A new case of hemorrhagic fever has been confirmed in Nineveh Governorate on Wednesday, according to the provincial health directorate.

The patient, a 48-year-old woman from the Nahrawan neighborhood in Mosul district, has been isolated at Shifa Hospital and is receiving treatment.

Hemorrhagic fever is a viral infection transmitted through contact with infected animals or their meat, as well as through tick bites. The disease has become a recurring concern in Iraq, especially in agricultural regions where human-animal contact is frequent.

This marks the latest in a resurgence of cases across the country. So far this year, five people have died from the disease, four of them in Kirkuk.

As of April 24, the Iraqi Ministry of Health confirmed that cases of hemorrhagic fever have risen to 26 across the country since the beginning of the year.

The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health issued public health guidance for Eid Al-Adha, urging residents to use only approved slaughterhouses and follow strict protective measures when slaughtering animals to avoid exposure to blood and tissue.
