Armed tribal clash in Basra injures two police officers, one civilian

BASRA — Two police officers and a woman were injured Wednesday morning during an armed clash between rival factions of the same tribe in the Al-Madina district of northern Basra governorate, according to security officials.

The confrontation took place in the remote Hayader area, where security forces were deployed to contain the violence. “An armed conflict erupted this morning between two sides of a single tribe in the Hayader area, north of Al-Madina district,” a security source told 964media.

Two members of the emergency police were wounded during the response, and a woman was hit by stray gunfire, the source said.

A unit from the Ministry of Interior later arrested several individuals accused of instigating the violence.

Authorities placed Al-Madina under heightened security following the incident, with security forces continuing to monitor the area to prevent further escalation.

In a similar incident last month, a violent clash between two tribal groups in the village of Qaratepa, west of Kirkuk, left three people dead and four others injured, according to local police.
