Thieves cut through roof to rob Basra jewelry shop

BASRA — Two thieves cut a hole in the roof of a jewelry shop in Basra’s Abu al-Khasib district before dawn Saturday, emptied the safe of gold and cash and left the same way without being detected, a security source told 964media.

Security forces reached the scene after the theft was reported. Investigators have collected evidence, lifted fingerprints and are reviewing surveillance footage from the area, the source said. Authorities have not given the value of what was taken and no arrests have been announced.

Abu al-Khasib is one of Basra’s main commercial areas, with traditional markets and numerous gold and jewelry shops.
