Environmental campaign launches at Garmian University to boost greenery

GARMIAN — An environmental campaign to increase greenery across the Garmian area in Sulaymaniyah governorate began Tuesday at Garmian University, organized by the Garmian Environmental Protection Group.

Yasin Hama Amin, head of the Garmian Environmental Protection Group, told 964media, “We have launched a campaign to green areas within Garmian’s administrative borders. Today, we are focusing on making the Garmian University campus greener.”

He added, “We have brought an environmental activity here and hope to increase the campus’s greenery.”

Amin explained that, in cooperation with the municipality of Rizgary subdistrict, around 200 Albizia saplings were prepared for planting in part of the university’s campus area. “These trees are well-suited to the Garmian climate, and provide a green cover,” he said.

Amin added, “We believe it is better to green the university area step by step. Today marks the first phase of the project.”

He noted that the university was selected because it is a public educational institution playing a vital role in shaping future generations. “We want this place to be greener, cleaner, and to foster a healthier environment,” he said.

Aras Fariq, president of Garmian University, said the university’s campus area is large and that the goal is to make it greener. In addition to the 200 Albizia saplings, the Kifri district commissioner contributed 100 trees, and 80 date palms have also been brought for planting within the university grounds.
