In phone call with Iran’s president, PM Al-Sudani offers condolences after port explosion

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani expressed Iraq’s condolences to Iran on Tuesday following the fatal explosion incident at Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, expressing readiness to offer support and medical assistance in a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

He also conveyed “heartfelt condolences to the Iranian people and sincere wishes for the swift recovery of the wounded,” according to a statement from his media office.

A massive explosion occurred on April 26, at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, resulting in at least 70 deaths and over 1,200 injuries, according to Iranian state media. The blast originated from several containers in the port’s wharf area, possibly containing hazardous materials or chemicals. ​

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani extended, today, Tuesday, the condolences of Iraq—its government and people—over the victims of the fire incident at the Port of Shahid Rajaee in the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas.

During a phone call with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the Prime Minister expressed Iraq’s solidarity with the families of the victims and affirmed Iraq’s full readiness to provide any urgent medical assistance needed to treat the injured. He also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Iranian people and sincere wishes for the swift recovery of the wounded.
