Sulaymaniyah woman dies during liposuction in second such death this year
SULAYMANIYAH — A woman in her mid-30s died Monday night during a liposuction procedure at a private hospital in Sulaymaniyah, marking the second reported death from cosmetic surgery in the city this year. Her body was transferred to the forensic medicine department, and her family has initiated legal proceedings.
According to information obtained by 964media, the woman, Shokhan Abdullah, was born in 1989 and had recently returned to Iraq from abroad. She underwent the procedure at a private facility, where she died during the operation.
Dr. Saman, director of Sefin Hospital, confirmed to 964media that the procedure involved fat removal. “The woman underwent a cosmetic procedure involving fat removal. During the operation, she developed complications related to blood circulation, likely a stroke,” he said.
Abdullah, a mother of three, had no known prior health conditions, her family said. Authorities have not yet named the hospital or the medical staff involved, but an official investigation is underway.
It is the second such case reported in Sulaymaniyah in recent months. In January, a 41-year-old woman died shortly after undergoing liposuction at another private hospital.
