Preventing traffic congestion

Sulaymaniyah bans trucks, motorcycles from tourist roads during Eid holiday

NEWSROOM — Authorities in Sulaymaniyah have announced a temporary ban on heavy trucks and motorcycles along roads leading to tourist areas, including the Dukan resort, during the first three days of Eid al-Fitr.

The Sulaymaniyah Traffic Directorate said the restriction will be in effect daily from 7 a.m. to midnight and applies to all roads leading into the Dukan recreational area.

The decision follows a similar move by Erbil traffic officials, who earlier this week banned trucks and motorcycles from roads to tourist destinations, including the Erbil–Shaqlawa route, during the Eid holiday.

Officials said the restrictions are intended to ease traffic congestion and prevent disruptions in heavily visited areas.

The first day of Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on Sunday or Monday, depending on the moon sighting. The holiday marks the end of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims fast from dawn until sunset.

Earlier Thursday, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health announced its Eid preparations, directing health directorates across governorates and autonomous administrations to maintain services throughout the holiday.
