Duhok authorities seize expired goods, penalize businesses in market crackdown

DUHOK — Authorities in Duhok confiscated 120 kilograms of expired goods and fined five businesses during a market inspection campaign, the Directorate of Commercial Monitoring announced Saturday.

The inspections targeted markets, bakeries, confectionery workshops, fruit and vegetable shops, and butcheries across Duhok and its surrounding districts.

In addition to the confiscations and fines, officials issued warnings to 16 other businesses for regulatory violations, urging them to comply with market standards.

The Directorate of Commercial Monitoring confirmed that inspections are ongoing in central Duhok and surrounding areas, including Semel, Shekhan, Amedi, Akre, and Bardarash, as part of efforts to enforce compliance.

Authorities have ramped up efforts to combat the sale of expired goods in the governorate. In Zakho, more than 600 tons of expired food and cosmetic products were confiscated and destroyed during inspections conducted in 2024.

In January, security forces in Duhok seized four tons of expired women’s cosmetic products in two separate raids across different neighborhoods.
