Iraq’s ministry of construction and housing achieves significant progress on the Al-Hajj road project
NAJAF, October 15 — The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Public Municipalities announced today, Sunday, that they have achieved 76% completion of the first phase of the Al-Hajj road, which connects Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, 51% completion has been reached for the second phase, with each phase covering a distance of 50 kilometers.
A statement from the Ministry received by Network 964 reads as follows:
“The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Public Municipalities has made significant progress in the execution of the construction phases of the Al-Hajj land road project in the Najaf Governorate. The project consists of the first and second phases, each spanning 50 kilometers.
The project is being supervised by the Roads and Bridges Directorate under the Ministry’s jurisdiction. It is considered one of the shortest roads connecting to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is expected to stimulate commercial and economic activity, making it a new gateway for tourism and investment in the province.
The completion rate of the first phase is 76%, with work including the construction of the Husb Bridge, the creation of 100 box culverts for stormwater drainage, paving approximately 25 kilometers of the road’s connecting layer, and preparing for the surface layer polymerization.
The completion rate of the second phase of the road is 51%, with ongoing work involving paving the road with the connecting layer and completing approximately 12 kilometers of it. This phase also includes the construction of 60 diverse bridges and the implementation of subsoil elevation layers, gravel pavement, and crushed limestone.”
