Strong car sales in Tal Afar, despite fluctuating U.S. dollar rates

TAL AFAR, October 14 — Nineveh’s Tal Afar district is seeing a positive trend in the used car market, despite a fluctuating U.S. dollar exchange rate, with car dealers in the area reporting that the Hyundai Sonata is currently the top-selling car model.

Car prices have risen by approximately $400 to $600 per vehicle compared to last September, but this has not deterred buyers.

According to Mohammed Dawood, the owner of a car dealership, sellers are scratching their heads about the increase in demand.

“The trade in Tal Afar, in general, is doing well, despite the unstable dollar prices. We do not precisely understand how sales and purchases have increased, given the dollar crisis, which has not yet affected the car market in Tal Afar,” he said.

Dawood attributed the Hyundai Sonata’s popularity to the availability of spare parts in local markets, its reasonable prices, and sturdiness.

“The Hyundai Sonata is known for its durability and ability to withstand the rough road conditions, which is essential in a city with streets filled with bumps and potholes,” he said.

Dawood added that his dealership currently has 15 Hyundai Sonata models ranging from 2009 to 2020, with prices starting from $10,000 to $20,000.
