Iraqi airstrike kills five ISIS militants in northern Rawa
ANBAR — An Iraqi F-16 airstrike destroyed an Islamic State hideout in northern Rawa, killing five militants and wounding several others, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command has announced. The strike took place in the Jazeera Operations Command sector of Anbar.
According to the statement, the operation was “based on precise intelligence and extensive efforts by the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, in coordination with the Military Intelligence Directorate and the National Security Service.” The Joint Operations Command Targeting Cell planned and oversaw the mission.
Forces from the 7th Division under the Jazeera Operations Command inspected the site after the bombing. They found the bodies of five ISIS militants, including a senior leader whose identity is still undergoing forensic verification. The statement said “various weapons, including medium and light arms, different types of ammunition, explosive belts, hand grenades, logistical supplies, and mobile devices” were recovered.
“Our security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorist elements. There is no safe haven for them in Iraq—neither caves nor remote deserts will shield them. Their fate is sealed, and justice will be served,” the statement read.
Iraqi security forces have intensified airstrikes against ISIS remnants, particularly in remote and disputed territories. On Jan. 31, a separate air raid in Salah Al-Din governorate killed several senior ISIS leaders, according to the Joint Operations Command. On Jan. 8, Iraqi F-16 jets targeted ISIS hideouts and caves in the Hamrin Mountain range in Kirkuk, aiming to eliminate militant strongholds in the area.
