Kirkuk: F-16 jets strike ISIS hideout in Zagitoun valley
KIRKUK — Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out an airstrike on an Islamic State hideout in Zagitoun Valley, Kirkuk Governorate, the Joint Operations Command announced on Sunday.
The strike was executed based on intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate and coordinated with the Joint Operations Command’s targeting cell. The operation aimed to eliminate ISIS elements present at the location, according to the statement.
“The victories and special operations continue by our heroic security forces, and we will persist in intensive security efforts to eliminate ISIS terrorism wherever it may be,” the statement read.
Further details on the operation are expected to be released later.
The airstrike is part of ongoing efforts. The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service, the Kurdish Counter-Terrorism Group, and international coalition forces arrested several wanted individuals during a joint military and intelligence operation on Saturday.
Iraqi security forces confirmed Saturday that a Jan. 31 airstrike in Salah Al-Din killed senior Islamic State leaders, the Joint Operations Command said in a statement.
