Al-Sudani, Qubad Talabani discuss federal-regional cooperation in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met Monday with Kurdistan Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani to discuss “key national issues”, the implementation of the government program, and cooperation between federal and regional authorities, according to a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office.
The Iraqi Parliament approved amendments to the federal budget law for fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025 on Sunday, paving the way for a potential resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. It comes as protests continue in Sulaymaniyah over Kurdistan Region public sector salary delays.
Statement from PM Al-Sudani’s media office:
Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Monday, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Mr. Qubad Talabani. The meeting included discussions on key national issues and the best means to enhance the implementation of the government program in a manner that meets the aspirations of citizens across all regions of Iraq.
The meeting also addressed several shared responsibilities between the federal government and the regional government, particularly in light of the Council of Representatives’ recent vote to amend the Federal Budget Law. The amendment is expected to expand avenues for institutional cooperation and provide an opportunity to resolve common administrative challenges.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government’s support for the ongoing dialogues between political forces in the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing the importance of completing the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government based on the results of the elections held last October.
