Two dead, nine injured in seperate crashes on Kirkuk-Baghdad road

TUZ KHURMATU — Two people were killed and nine others injured in separate traffic incidents on the Kirkuk-Baghdad Road Wednesday, local authorities said.

Muayad Abbas, head of traffic in Tuz Khurmatu, told 964media the first incident occurred between the Amirli area and Uzem subdistrict. A passenger bus traveling at high speed lost control and overturned, killing two passengers and injuring seven others who were transported to the hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident near the Sulaiman Beg subdistrict in Salah Al-Din’s Tuz Khurmatu district, two vehicles collided. Abbas confirmed that two individuals were injured in this crash.

Traffic incidents in Tuz Khurmatu district have been on the rise, with over 40 fatalities and more than 100 injuries recorded in 2024, marking a 40 percent increase compared to 2023, according to local traffic authorities.

The Tuz Khurmatu district serves as a main corridor connecting the Kurdistan Region with Baghdad. Traffic accidents frequently occur along this route, and in some cases, incidents are resolved privately between citizens without being officially reported to traffic authorities.
