Motorcyclist killed Tuz Khurmatu crash after colliding with tanker

TUZ KHURMATU — A motorcyclist lost his life in a crash in the center of Tuz Khurmatu district, Salah Al-Din, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Rizgari neighborhood when a motorcycle collided with a tanker that was distributing fuel to homes, according to Muayyad Abbas, the director of traffic police in Tuz Khurmatu.

“The tanker was navigating residential areas to distribute fuel, and at that time, the motorcycle, traveling at high speed, collided with it, resulting in the incident,” Abbas told 964media.

The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and died before reaching the hospital. He was identified as a 28-year-old resident of Tuz Khurmatu who was on his way home from work at the time of the incident.

Traffic police arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation into the accident.

The annual rate of traffic incidents in Tuz Khurmatu district has seen an increase, with more than 40 fatalities and over 100 injuries recorded in 2024, a 40% rise compared to 2023, according to local traffic authorities.

Tuz Khurmatu serves as a strategic corridor connecting the Kurdistan Region with Baghdad. Traffic incidents frequently occur along this route, and in some cases, incidents are resolved privately between citizens without being officially reported to traffic authorities.
