Teenager arrested for killing of woman in Sulaymaniyah last August
SULAYMANIYAH — A teenager has been arrested for the murder of a woman in Sulaymaniyah, five months after the killing, according to the Sulaymaniyah Police Directorate.
The arrest followed a joint operation by the Anti-Homicide Department and federal intelligence services.
In a statement, the police said, “On Aug. 17, 2024, the body of a woman was found in the Sarchnar neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah. Investigations revealed she had been killed by a relative, who then abandoned her body in an undisclosed location. After months of investigation, we located the suspect in Maysan Governorate and apprehended him.”
The suspect, identified as K.A.F., a 17-year-old Arab male, confessed to the crime. “The suspect admitted to traveling from Maysan Governorate to Sulaymaniyah and murdering his relative in the Sarchnar area,” the police stated.
The Directorate confirmed that the suspect is being held under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which pertains to premeditated murder. “We are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and will continue with the legal process,” the statement said.
