Iraq’s oldest woman dies at 138 years old

DHI QAR, October 5 — An elderly woman in Dhi Qar governorate died Wednesday at the age of 138 from sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest, according to local authorities who believe she was the oldest woman in Iraq.

Records showed the woman, Maddlooh Maneh Mohammed, was born in 1885 and died at her home.

Nafie Farhan Al-Amri, Director of Dhi Qar’s Health Directorate, reported: “We were informed of her death by her grandson, and a medical examination was conducted, confirming that she had passed away due to complications of old age, as indicated on the death certificate.”

Mohammed was considered to be the oldest woman in Iraq, and possibly the world, after Japanese citizen Kane Tanaka, passed away in 2018 at the age of 119, according to the the Guinness World Records.
