Baghdad security forces arrest five, seize weapons and explosives after shots fired
BAGHDAD — Baghdad Operations Command announced on Monday the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of various weapons, grenades, an improvised explosive device, and materials used for manufacturing explosives in multiple areas across the capital.
The command said in a statement, “the arrests were part of ongoing preemptive operations aimed at pursuing outlaws, organized crime elements, and addressing the issue of illegal weapons. Units from the 1st Mechanized Division of the Federal Police and Rusafa Police Command, with support from intelligence agencies, carried out the successful raids.”
One of the suspects was arrested in Doura’s 60th Street for firing shots indiscriminately, and authorities confiscated various weapons and ammunition in his possession. Another suspect was apprehended in Zafraniya’s Institute Street based on precise intelligence from a cooperating source. A joint task force raided an electrical supply store in the area, uncovering a stockpile that included ammunition, hand grenades, an IED, and materials used to manufacture explosives.
Three additional suspects were arrested in the Jihad (Officers’) neighborhood and Hor Rajab in Karkh, the statement said.
The arrested individuals and seized materials have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.
