Car loses tire in motion

One dead, three injured in rollover on Kirkuk-Baghdad Road

KIRKUK — One person died and three others, including a child, were injured in a car incident on the Kirkuk-Baghdad Road near the Salman Beg subdistrict on Saturday.

The incident occurred when a BMW lost a tire while in motion, causing the driver to lose control, leading to the vehicle overturning.

A local source told 964media that the incident involved a BMW carrying four passengers, including a woman and a child. The vehicle overturned on the main road, resulting in the death of one person and varying injuries to the other passengers.

The injured were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Authorities attributed the cause of the accident to the detachment of one of the car’s tires during driving.

Traffic accidents remain a significant concern in Iraq. In 2023, the country, excluding the Kurdistan Region, recorded 11,552 traffic accidents, resulting in 3,019 fatalities and 12,314 injuries. This marked a slight increase from 2022, which saw 11,523 accidents and 3,021 deaths. Driver error accounted for approximately 79% of these incidents, with vehicle-related issues and poor road conditions contributing to the remainder.
