'Cultural landmark'
Maysan to erect monument for killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah
MAYSAN – Local authorities in Maysan announced Wednesday plans to construct a monument commemorating the late Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. Governor Habib Zahir Al-Fartousi stated that designs for the structure have been finalized, and implementation is expected to commence soon.
Hassan Nasrallah was the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, a Lebanese pro-Iran Shiite political and militant organization. Nasrallah was killed on Sept. 27, 2024, in an Israeli airstrike targeting the group’s headquarters in the Dahieh suburb of Beirut. His assassination was considered one of Israel’s most consequential targeted killings in years.
The 12.5-meter-tall bronze statue will rest on a tiered base measuring 10 meters in width. The structure will be adorned with marble engravings and equipped with specialized lighting.
“This monument aims to serve as a prominent cultural landmark, honoring the heroic contributions of the martyr Hassan Nasrallah to religion, sect and the Palestinian cause,” Al-Fartousi said in a statement.
The monument will be situated near the planned overpass and intersection project in central Maysan. The governor emphasized that the project reflects Maysan’s commitment to recognizing “figures who have played pivotal roles in defending religious and national issues.”
